At Jennifer's Hamam it is our aim to support our local artisans in Turkey.
Our pestamels, towels, robes, silk products and kese are all woven on old style looms and made from natural materials. All materials are grown in Turkey and woven in Turkey. It is our intention to save the art of weaving in Turkey.
Pestamel
A pestamel is a flat woven piece of material that is made as a Turkish bath (hamam) towel. Although in the west we do not appreciate the hamam culture, nor do we have easy access to hamams, pestamel are wonderful travel, sports and beach towels. They pack light and stay light when wet and dry quickly.
The best part about pestamel though, is that they can be worn as scarves, used as table clothes, curtains, blankets and throws. They are beautiful pieces of materials that have uses only limited by your imagination.
At Jennifer's Hamam, we only carry pestamel woven on old-style looms. Most of our pestamels are produced using 100% organic certified Turkish cotton, but we also make pestamel from Turkish linen, bamboo and silk.
Towels
Jennifer's Hamam designs
A towel is thicker than a pestamel. 99.9% of the towels made around the world today are made on shuttleLESS factory machines. They last approximately 5-7 years and are usually made with non-organic cotton or even worse, non-natural materials like acrylic, viscose and polyester fibres.
At Jennifer's Hamam, we only sell towels woven on old-style looms with shuttles. The strength and integrity of the towel is far superior to its factory of Vamatex counter-part and will last 20+ years using a dryer and 30+ years if they are hung to dry. In cotton, We use only the top quality, organic certified, Turkish cotton from the centre of the ball. Also available are an array of Turkish linen, Turkish bamboo and even Turkish silk towels.
There are three families left in all of Turkey who still know how to do this looping technique on old-style looms that create the thicker towels. It is our aim to help save this art and provide our clients with a best towel they can find in the world.
Robes
All of our robes at Jennifer's Hamam are made from our pestamel flat woven material or our woven towel material.
Silk
A few exclusive pieces
Silk is a natural protein fibre that has a history dating as far back as 3500 BC. Originally only for royalty, it soon became an important item of trade. Its ability to refract light, creating a shimmering effect made it the choice for the construction of beautiful articles of clothing. Beyond it's beauty, silk is one of the strongest natural fibers available; due to its absorbency it makes it comfortable to wear in warm weather and during activity; its low conductivity keeps warm air next to the skin during cold weather.
Jennifer's Hamam is proud to support the tradition of silk, working with the last family in Turkey who is raising silk worms, spinning, dying and weaving silk for textiles.
Due to the creation of cheaper, synthetic fibers, silk is slowly losing is popularity. As hard as they try though, the properties and benefits of high quality silk cannot be reproduced in a lab. Those who are aware of its qualities search for silk. In Turkey, as in other silk producing countries, the art is almost lost; it is our aim to help save this art and provide our clients with the best silk pestamel, scarves and bolt material by the meter.
Kese
Various woven Kese

KESE is the hand mitt used in the hamam to removed the dead skin from the body. At Jennifer's Hamam, all of our kese are made on old-style looms or hand-woven. All have been laboratory tested in Turkey and certified organic.
Using kese is considered one of the best things you can do for the health of your skin. Removal of the dead skin using kese promotes the growth of new healthy cells, impedes the build-up of cellulite and increases the circulation and health of the skin.
