Kese Use and Care Instructions

The Original Turkish Exfoliating Mitt

The concept of the steam bath was passed from the Romans to the Byzantines, and then on to the Turks, who named it the HAMAM (meaning to ‘heat up’).  As part of the Hamam procedure, an attendant uses a KESE to exfoliate your body for the purposes of sloughing off dead skin and beautifying the body.

You can bring this Hamam experience home with you into your own bathroom for healthier, softer and more beautiful skin.
Our KESE are made from natural materials such as goat hair, silk, linen, wool and/or tree bark are all made the traditional way on old-style-shuttled looms.  Depending on the fibre type chosen, and if properly cared for, you can expect your KESE to last 3 – 7 years.
Your KESE accomplishes a variety of tasks related to achieving healthier skin.  They include:

1. Removes dead skin cells and encourages the growth of new healthy skin cells.
2. Opens skin pores and removes sweat, dirt, and excess oils.
3. Discourages pimples, blackheads, and cysts from forming.
4. Reduces cellulite and prevent further build-up.
5. Helps prevent age spots.
6. Cleans, smooths, and softens the skin.
7. Increases proper circulation, which helps keep skin young and healthy.
8. Energizes the entire body.

Using your KESE:

Your KESE works best after you have spent 5-10 minutes in a hot, steamy environment. The longer you spend in in this environment, the easier it is to remove the skin’s dead surface cells.

Ensure your body and the KESE are completely wet with hot water (do NOT use soap).  Put your hand into the KESE and pass up and down over your skin using long, slow strokes. During these motions use the heel of your hand to apply a comfortable pressure level.

Exfoliate one part of your body at a time. As you stroke your skin, your KESE will slough off dead skin. After 10-20 strokes in a particular area, your KESE will have removed the dead skin. At that point, move on to the next area of your body.    The dead skin that rolls off your body can look darker than usual skin colour. This is perfectly normal.  Continue to use your KESE on remaining area of your body.

After you finish scrubbing your entire body, be sure to RINSE thoroughly with water removing all the dead skin bits prior using any soap.
Use your KESE once every 7-15 days; do not over-use it.

Caring for your KESE:

After each use, rinse your KESE with very hot water and then hang it up to dry. Make sure that the KESE adequately dries each time. Do NOT machine-wash it or use any detergents when cleaning your KESE. Doing so will only reduce its life span.

For best health practices sharing KESE is not recommended.
