What is the difference between weaving, knitting, tufting, and knotting?

Weaving is the interlacing of warp and weft threads using a loom to create fabric. Knitting uses a single yarn looped through itself to build fabric. Tufting involves pushing yarn through a base cloth, usually to make rugs. Knotting ties threads or yarns in patterns to create pile or texture. All are different textile techniques with unique structures and histories.

Why are woven towels better than tufted or knitted towels?

Woven towels, especially those made on traditional looms, are stronger, more durable, and age better than tufted or knitted alternatives. They absorb well without falling apart, and don’t rely on synthetic blends that can deteriorate quickly. The weaving technique also preserves cultural craft and heritage.

On March 5th, 2011, we quietly opened the doors to our second shop and we’re still catching our breath.

Thanks to your overwhelming support, Jennifer’s Hamam has grown beyond anything we imagined in our first year. The shop has filled with clients from around the world who believe in what we do and are supporting Türkiye’s last traditional weavers, preserving natural fibre production, and keeping a beautiful, endangered craft alive.

So what’s changed?

We’ve added new weavers, which means more variety and more stunning designs
We’re now offering fitted sheets and duvet covers, all made from the same high-quality, loom-woven cotton and linen
And we’ve expanded our towel selection in a big way — more colours, more textures, and a lot more reasons to spend too long choosing your favourite

From the beginning, our mission was simple: create a sustainable business that supports artisan weavers and makes exceptional quality textiles available to people who care. Thanks to you, that dream is not just surviving, it’s growing.
